"Cyberchondriacs"

After our discussion in class on Friday about trends in marketing, I found this article interesting. It talks about the increasing number of people who go to the internet to find out about their health, then talking to their personal doctors about what they find. The statistics shown in this article state that the number of people looking up medical information has increased 37% from 2005. Take a look.

The US healthcare system needs some changes and I think that this is a start to what might lay ahead for the industry. The health resources online are a low cost (free beyond your internet fee), easy first step for people who want information. In the past, you would need to physically go to the doctor or perhaps call a doctor, which your answer to your questions waiting on the doctors availability. Now the information is at your fingertips. This is an example of adding a distribution channel for a product or service.
